UNICANCER to perform an initial assessment of the use of new French methods of certification in the French Cancer Centers during the 32nd Conference of the international Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) in Doha - Qatar

French Federation of Comprehensive Cancer CentersDuring the 32nd Conference of the International Society for Quality in Healhcare (ISQua), hold at Doha (Qatar) from the 4th to the 7th October, UNICANCER, the Group of French Cancer Centers, presented the results of 18 months of use of the new tools and methods of hospital certification issued by the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS, the French Authority for Health) in the French Cancer Centers.

The new procedure for hospital certification, V2014, started in France at the beginning of the year.

The main changes compared to the last certification (V2010) are the creation of a quality account for each hospital and new methods of certification visits: the process audit and the tracer methodology, which analyzes retrospectively patient management from admission in the hospital to discharge.

Currently, 9 French Cancer Centers have been visited by HAS experts, the others will be assessed before the end of 2017. The first Cancer Center which was visited, Paoli Calmettes Institute (Marseille city, France), has just received final certication of grade A, with no remarks.

This official decision shows the high performance level of Paoli Calmettes, which has fully satisfied HAS’ requirements and, in so doing,  will benefit from an extension of the certification validity from 4 to 6 years, granted only to the most performant health institutions.

Since 2013, UNICANCER Group has put in to place guidance for all the French Cancer Centers concerning the process audit, the tracer methodology and the quality account in order to help them to obtain the best results in the new certification procedure.

UNICANCER has assessed the perceptions of Cancer Centers’ teams about these new tools and methods of HAS after 24 months.

The results show overall satisfaction with them, considered to be more performant.  However, mastering them is time consuming, and the teams would like the new practices to continuous in the future, not limited to V2014 certification.
